REDDAF Presentation at COP19, Warsaw
The EU hosted a Side Event at the COP19 in Warsaw on Thursday 14 December 2013.

The Side Event, “Earth Observation for REDD+ and Tropical Forest Monitoring: Copernicus Initiative, a New Opportunity from the EU,” had the overall objective to provide the audience with an overview of the Copernicus Programme of the EU and its contribution to the technical requirements of REDD+. Since several years, the European Union has funded research activities to highlight the potentialities of Earth Observation for monitoring forest changes in the tropics and related carbon emissions in the REDD+ context, and the Side Event provided a forum for presenting the results of these projects.

In this context Dr. Rene Siwe, the Project Co-ordinator for REDDAF from GAF AG (Germany) presented the status and completion of the project with his presentation, “Support to REDD+ MRV national systems (Cameroon and CAR): REDAFF project.” The UNFCCC Focal Point for Cameroon, Mr. J. Amagou who attended the Side Event contributed to the presentation, by stating the clear benefits in terms of upgrading the technical capacity as well as methods development that the national REDD+ process had accrued due to the project. He thanked the EU for the project opportunity and encouraged further technical programme activities via the EU and Service Providers, for supporting REDD+ in both Cameroon and the Congo Basin.
